Welcome to The Getaway Café

I have always dreamed of owning a restaurant where my friends and family would feel at home and where strangers would soon become friends. I have been in the restaurant industry since I was 14 years old and have been influenced by many wonderful chefs preparing a wide array of foods from many cultures.  My happiest moments have always been when I was cooking for my friends and family. My mission is simple: great food prepared with fresh ingredients at an affordable price.

May your meal be enhanced by the friendly banter of an attentive staff. Everything is made fresh to order in a very small kitchen so sit back, relax and enjoy the conversations of the guests you are dining with.  I promise you it will be worth the wait.

If there are items on my menu you have never tried before, I encourage you to be adventurous. You will find a blend of American, Italian and Mexican cuisines on the menu, sometimes with a unique twist, but always prepared with a passion for flavor.

  •   Such a cute spot! We were on our way out of town and decided to stop for some breakfast before hitting the road. They were busy but it was our lucky day to get a table. The owner and servers were so friendly and made us feel right at home. The chorizo chilaquiles were delicious! We also got their special pumpkin pancakes which sounded, and were, too good to miss. We'll be back!

  •   Great place to end our trip with good food & good staff. Biscuits and gravy were fresh baked and ready to devour.

  •   On a Sunday morning, after spending a fabulous weekend in South Lake Tahoe, my husband and I stopped at the getaway café. Obviously, this place is popular for a reason so they were packed. We waited about 20 or 30 minutes for a spot inside, and we're seated at the counter. It is a tiny restaurant and very cozy, especially when they're outdoor patio is closed.

The service was fast and friendly. Not only are they cranking the food out, but it is absolutely delicious. My husband and I decided to share one of their pumpkin pancakes and it was phenomenal. I opted for the chilaquiles while my husband got the huevos rancheros. We both absolutely devoured our dishes.

If you are just looking for some good tasting breakfast food served up fast with a smile, this is the spot for you.
